Super Neighborhood #22, Memorial Park/Washington Avenue, extends from Interstate 45 at the northern edge of downtown on the East to Loop 610 on the West. It is bounded on the North by White Oak Bayou and the South by Buffalo Bayou, and contains one of Houston’s primary environmental assets - Memorial Park, the site of historic World War I Camp Logan. Neighborhoods of the old west-end area, in proximity to the park, are experiencing rapid growth with construction of new single-family homes and town homes along with the restoration of original craftsman bungalows and cottages. The eastern end of the area includes the First and Sixth Wards, political geographic units, which date from the 19th Century. The Old Sixth Ward Historic District contains the city's largest collection of Victorian era buildings. Centrally located, Spott’s Park and Glenwood Cemetery, along with the Buffalo and White Oak Bayou trails provide excellent recreational opportunities. Historic Washington Avenue itself is transforming into an exciting dining, entertainment and shopping destination.
