Woodcrest parade unit sign -up deadline

The Woodcrest Neighborhood Civic Association (WNCA) invites you to be a part of our sponsored segment in Super Neighborhood #22’s first Washington on Washington Parade.
WNCA has chosen as our representative era “now + into the future”. It is our hope to present and encourage a vision of urban moility with reduced reliance on fossil fueled vehicles while exploring the potential of people powered transportation….walking, running, bicycling, skating, skateboarding, scootering....however you may choose to present it --
Auto-Mobility = People Power!

Be a part of the Woodcrest neighborhood’s official parade entry, simply e-mail WNCA77007@AOL.com to request inclusion on the WNCA Parade Participant Roster. Space is limited and requests must be received prior to the February 20th monthly WNCA meeting. No parade entry fee is required from participants in the WNCA People Power parade unit.
We encourage other groups, businesses and individuals from Woodcrest to support the SN#22 community by participating independently in the parade. You may apply directly to WOW the Parade for entry on individual, group or sponsorship levels. Completed and accepted entry forms for all participants are required for inclusion in WOW the Parade.
Additional registration information and entry forms are available at: www.wowtheparade.com

WOW the Parade poster contest winners

Poster contest judging has been completed. Schools in Super Neighborhood 22 were invited to participate in the poster contest. Elementary school students were requested to base entries on President George Washington. High school students were asked to reference an era in Washington Avenue's history. Contest judges inculded an arts educator from Houston Community College, a gallery artist/printmaker, and an architect. Two parade committee members also acted as judges. The first place winning artwork from each group has now been reproduced and printed as an official 2007 WOW the Parade poster. Watch for these two colorful and unique posters in locations throughout Super Neighborhood 22.

The first place winners from Memorial Elementary and MECA are:
Emily Dominguez - age 8
Eduardo Ponce - age 16

Also from Memorial Elementary are:
Second place - Robert Salias - age 9
Honorable Mention - Rafael Lopez - age 9

We are hoping to arrange an exhibition of all non-winning submissions in three different area businesses during the week of the parade, and are investigating the possibility of permanent exhibition of the contest winners' work at HISD's offices.
